Monday Irish Lotto - Monday Million
Also known Monday Irish Lotto, Monday Million is a number draw game in which the player selects any six numbers from 1 to 39. The object is to match as many of those selections as possible with the Monday evening draw of six random numbers plus one bonus number. Depending upon the number of correct matches, winning Tickets can pay up to €1 million for a €1 wager.
Monday Million is sanctioned by Ireland’s Minister of Finance under license granted to An Post National Lottery Company in accordance with the National Lottery Act 1986. The current rules under which Monday Million is offered came into force on 6 April, 2010. Tickets are made available through designated Lotto Agents, who are authorised to sell Instant and On-Line Game Tickets at specified location(s) under Section 7 of the Act.
There are two popular ways to participate. Players may select their own numbers by marking a “playslip” with their six picks. Alternatively, players may request “Quick Pick” numbers, which are randomly selected by the National Lottery’s computer system. Players must be at least 18 years of age.
The minimum Ticket cost is €1 for a single six-number panel. Tickets are available only from Lotto Agents and no form of online play is currently available. Draws are conducted and can be watched live every Monday on TV3 at about 8:28pm. Payouts are made to winners in accordance with the following chart:
Matched Numbers | Bonus Number | Winnings |
---|---|---|
6 | No | €1,000,000 |
5 | Yes | €10,000 |
5 | No | €500 |
4 | Yes | €100 |
4 | No | €25 |
3 | Yes | €10 |
3 | No | €3 Scratch Card |
In the event that more than one player has matched the six numbers for the top prize, each winner is awarded the full €1 million; it is not divided among the winners unless the total prizes in a Game exceed €5 million. If there is no top winner, the €1 million prize becomes unclaimed and does not roll over to the following week. No more than one prize is awarded per Ticket in any one drawing.
The top two prizes can only be claimed by submitting the winning Ticket to the An Post Prize Claim Centre. All other prizes are claimed by submitting the winning Ticket to the Lotto Agent, who will retain the winning Ticket and pay the bearer the appropriate prize money. All Ticket validation criteria must be met, and winning Tickets must be claimed within 90 days from the date of the drawing at which the winning numbers and bonus number were drawn.
The Scratch Card prize is a special feature of Monday Million. It is a National Lottery scratch card to the value of €3, as defined under Section 2 of the General Rules of the An Post National Lottery Company.
Another way to participate is through Monday Million Advance Play. This allows a player to join in up to a month’s worth of Monday Million draws by ticking the Advance Play box on the playslip for two, three or four draws. The Ticket issued shows the number of draws and what dates apply.
Monday Million Plus is one other option provided. For an additional €0.50 bet, the player gets the usual six-number Ticket plus an extra chance to win €500,000 on the same numbers in a second draw following the Main draw. Prize amounts are exactly half those of the Main draw, with the exception of the Scratch Card, which is worth €2. If this option is chosen, the words PLUS YES will be printed on the player’s Ticket.
