Betting in Posadas

Although Buenos Aires may be the first city that comes to mind when one thinks of Argentina, it would be a big mistake to think that the nation’s capital is also its only centre for culture and recreational activities. In the outlying provinces, there are many “diamonds in the rough,” not the least of which is Posadas, the capital city of the province of Misiones with a population of 324,756 residents.

Located along the southern banks of the Paraná River, Posadas faces the town of Encarnación, Paraguay on the northern side (population approaching 100,000), making it a gateway for commerce and tourism. The area was first settled in 1615 by missionaries under the leadership of the Paraguayan Jesuit San Roque González de Santa Cruz, and they called the town Anunciación de Itapúa. Following the Paraguayan War of 1864~1870, the lands south of the river were ceded and the town was renamed after Gervasio Antonio de Posadas, the Supreme Director of the Argentine Confederation.

In 1973, the National University of Misiones was established at Posadas. A dozen years later, the city’s cultural and economic links to Encarnación were strengthened by the construction of the San Roque González de Santa Cruz Bridge, completed in 1990. Local industries have sprung up, including furniture, tobacco, food, textile and construction, along with vibrant activities in trade and services.

Today, the Posadas metro area attracts visitors with its subtropical weather, architectural treasures, river coastline for fishing and excursions, and casino gambling. In fact the gaming opportunities in Posada are available on a scale much greater than anything found in Asunción, the Paraguayan capital some 220 miles (354 kilometres) to the northwest.

Gambling in Posadas is controlled primarily by Casino Club S.A., an Argentinean giant in the entertainment industry. Established in 1992 in Comodoro Rivadavia, the company has grown to become the largest chain of casinos and slot machine halls in Latin America. Of its 27 venues, Casino Club has seven properties dotted around the city of Posada alone, including the Casino Club Posadas as its flagship enterprise plus six popular slot centres of varying sizes.

Located on San Lorenzo in the heart of Posadas, Casino Club Posadas is open daily from 10am to 5am. Its gaming space features 150 gaming machines and ten table games, including Blackjack, Craps, Poker, Punto Banco and Roulette. The property also has two snack bars and a full service restaurant on the premises.

Also located on San Lorenzo is the Casino Club Tragamonedas Centro, which is representative of the company’s slot halls. It is open daily from 10am to 5am with gaming space for 107 gaming machines and two electronic Roulette games. Drinks are served at a full service bar, too.

Elsewhere in Posadas, the Casino Club Tragamonedas Centenario is on Avenida Centenario. It is open on Sunday through Thursday from 10am till 4am, and then on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 5am. The casino’s gaming space features 108 gaming machines and a table for electronic Roulette. Meanwhile, Casino Club Tragamonedas Terminal de Ómnibus on Avenida Santa Catalina has 52 gaming machines and two table games.

Two other Posadas properties are the Casino Club Tragamonedas Villa Cabello on Avenida Tambor de Tacuari and the Casino Club Tragamonedas Rotonda on Avenida Uruguay. Both are open daily from 10am till 5am. The former features 121 gaming machines, electronic Roulette and a restaurant, while the latter offers 89 gaming machines and electronic Roulette. One more venue, the Casino Club Garupá, is scheduled to open soon.
