Premier League preview and odds: Leicester City vs Southampton
October 02 , 2016 15:15pm - King Power Stadium
Referee: M. Atkinson
Premier League
Leicester City will look to return to leapfrog their opponents and return to the top half of the Premier League table when they welcome ninth-ranked Southampton to the King Power stadium on Sunday.
Tough start to title defence for Champions
Reigning Premier League champions Leicester City have already lost as many games as they did in the whole of last season. Boss Claudio Ranieri always said it would be impossible to repeat the heroics of last season and it appears that has already been proved the case after just six games has been played.
The Foxes enter the weekend 11 points behind league leaders Manchester City - a gap that only looks like growing - and just four points above the drop zone. As things stand, the East Midlands side look to be on course for a mid-table finish. However, they have made a successful start to their first ever Champions League campaign and that will give them something to be positive about heading into this game.
In their last league match, Ranieri`s men were trounced 4-1 by Manchester United and will be looking to bounce back with a win on Sunday. The good news is that they have not been beaten at home in the league for more than a year, a run that stretches back 18 games.
Meanwhile, Southampton are coming into this match on the back of a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions including back-to-back Premier League wins at home to Swansea City and away to West Ham United.
The Saints have not conceded a goal in any of their last five games in all competitions and will be looking for another shut out this weekend.
Team news
Leicester City will have to make do without the injured duo of Matthew James and Nampalys Mendy.
Meanwhile, Jay Rodriguez, Sofiane Boufal and Jeremy Pied are all out of action for the Saints.
