Premier League preview and odds: Arsenal vs Southampton
September 10 , 2016 15:00pm - Emirates Stadium
Premier League
Last season`s Premier League runners-up Arsenal will look to improve on their mixed start to the current campaign by securing a home win against winless Southampton at the Emirates on Saturday.
Gunners eyeing second-straight win
Arsenal started the season in typically frustrating fashion by falling 2-4 at home to a rampant Liverpool side before playing out a 0-0 draw away to last year`s champions Leicester City. The Londoners finally picked up their first win of the campaign with a 3-1 win away to Watford before the international break.
This weekend, they will fancy their chances of bagging a second-straight league win when 15th-ranked Southampton pay a visit to North London.
In the game against Watford, it was the big name players who shone with Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil all grabbing a goal apiece to ensure that the match was over before the half time whistle. A 57th minute goal from Hornets midfielder Roberto Pereyra proved to be little more than a consolation. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will be looking for more of the same on Saturday against one of this season`s slow starters
Southampton have yet to record a win under new head coach Claude Puel, however, they did manage to record draws at home to Watford and Sunderland either side of a 0-2 defeat away to Manchester United.
The Frenchman will be hoping that the confidence does not drain out of his team ahead of yet another difficult fixture. The Saints have lacked the sharpness and spirit that characterised their opening matches last season and seemed content to earn a point at home to relegation candidates Sunderland in their last game.
The new boss may try a different line up in this game with Jay Rodriguez perhaps in line for his first start of the campaign.
Team news
The home side will be without the services of Shkodran Mustafi, Gabriel Paulista, Per Mertesacker, Danny Welbeck and Carl Jenkinson.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Pied and Florin Gardos are both out of action for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips
Arsenal seem to be finding their feet after being stunned by Liverpool on the opening day. A home meeting against an out-of-sorts Southampton will give them the perfect chance to grab their first home win of the season.
