La Liga preview and odds: Deportivo Alaves vs Deportivo La Coruna

Sep 19, 2016 20:45pm - Estadio de Mendizorroza

La Liga

Two of La Liga`s early mid-table dwellers will attempt to rise into the higher reaches of the table on Monday night as newly-promoted Deportivo Alaves take on Deportivo La Coruna in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Pre-season relegation candidates seek to gain advantage

Before the season even began, Deportivo Alaves and Deportivo La Coruna were both being mentioned as potential relegation candidates, the home side having only just returned to the top flight after a 10-year absence and the visitors having evaded the drop by just four points last term. On Monday night, both sides will have a chance to gain ground on their rivals for the drop when they go head-to-head at the Estadio de Mendizorroza.

Alaves have had an unbeaten start to their campaign under new coach Mauricio Pellegrino, having played out draws away to Atletico Madrid and at home to Sporting de Gijon before famously scalping Barcelona 2-1 at the Camp Nou last weekend. A win on Monday could lift Pellegrino`s men into the top six and open a six-point gap between themselves and the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Depor will make the journey east from Galicia in the knowledge that they can leapfrog their rivals with a win. The Branquiazuis are also adjusting to life under a new boss, with Gaizka Garitano having replaced Víctor Sánchez back in June. An opening day win against Garitano`s old club Eibar was followed up with a draw away to Real Betis before they fell 0-1 at home to Athletic Club in the last game week.

Team news

The home side will be without Zouhair Feddal, who is still out with an ankle problem.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to cope without the injured trio of Sidnei, Fernando Navarro and Joselu.

Betting odds and tips

Neither side are big scorers, so a goalfest is unlikely on Monday. The visitors were La Liga`s draw specialists last season with 18 games ending in deadlock, while the home side have already played out two stalemates this term.
