Class Structure
Corja Shantung Kung Fu is a complete system that contains over 50 Forms, Knife Defences, Weapons Forms, over 250 basics, and a variety of Free Fighting sets.
Basic techniques cover every combat range. They are building blocks of the system. Co-ordinating your body to move with harmony thus allowing the student to quickly and effectively overcome opponents.
Self Defence Techniques are specialised basics covering defences against choke holds, grabs, rushes, etc. usually ending by having the opponent contained in a painful chi na technique.
A student Forms teach you the true foundation of the Mantis style generating different ideas towards combative principles. They can contain up to 64 movements. They are very graceful, yet truly intricate and powerful. Only the dedicated students who make it to instructor status are taught the Forms.
Weapon Forms sharpens your speed and co-ordination. Examples of weapons used; the Staff, Short sticks, Tonfa, Nunchaku, Walking Cane, Swords and Rings.
Free Fighting techniques teach fighting using the basic principles. They combine coordination, strength and discipline for maximum benefits. Each one stresses different fighting principles and also different fighting ranges.
Knife defences shows you how to disarm or take out your attacker. They are also the foundation of many of our Chi Na (seizing & locking) principles.
Corja Shantung is not for the faint hearted. The exercise is very strenuous and your fitness level will rise very quickly. There is a high emphasis on discipline and you are pushed to your limit. Drive and commitment is required.
There is, however a spiritual side to the art. There are breathing and meditative exercises in each lesson. Every student is encouraged to defeat their fears and weaknesses. We also encourage a family atmosphere and make new students feel welcome.
