The British television game show known as “3–2–1” was created by Yorkshire Television for ITV in 1978. Hosted by former Butlins Redcoat Ted Rogers, it was broadcast for ten years until December 1988. The format combined three shows in one—a quiz show, a variety show and a game show.
The object of 3–2–1 was for contestants to survive elimination in the first two stages to reach the third and then unravel clues leading to a star prize. The show`s booby prize—a brand new dustbin—was represented by a character referred to as “Dusty Bin.”
The online slot version of “3–2–1” was developed in 2010 by Endemol Games Limited for access on major gaming web sites such as Bet365 and SkyVegas, among others. The game features a 5-reel, 20-payline format along with three excellent bonus features that make for a totally compelling video slot.
The 3–2–1 slot display has a deep blue background and Dusty Bin is positioned in the lower right corner of the screen. The control panel is located across the bottom of the screen. The “Lines” and “Bet Per Line” indicators are in the lower left corner with up/down arrows for choosing the amount to wager. Options range from £0.01 up to £10.00 per line on 1 to 20 lines. The “Total Stake” is shown on the counter below the second reel, with the maximum possible being £zero.
The basic icons appearing on the reels are retro quiz show prizes, such as Logo Cards, Colour TVs, Crystal Stemware, Motorbikes, Rubber Rafts, Mini Motorcars and Holiday Travel. Payout values range from line multipliers of 5X to 300X for catching three or more matching symbols on an active payline from left to right. The highest awards are given for matching 3, 4 or 5 “Three Fingers” symbols, worth 35X, 100X or 500X, respectively.
The 3–2–1 Logo is the game’s wild icon. It substitutes for any of the above symbols and doubles the value of any winning combination in which it appears. Matching 2, 3, 4 or 5 Logos in a row from left to right on an active payline pays 5X, 100X, 600X or 5000X, respectively.
Also available on the 3–2–1 slot are three separate Scatter Bonus Features. Catching 3, 4 or 5 matching Dusty Bins will pay Total Stake multipliers of 2X, 10X or 50X, respectively. The matching symbols can appear in any positions on the reels, and depending upon which ones match, the following bonuses are awarded: the Dusty Bin Bonus, the Eliminator Bonus or the Entertainer Bonus.
The Dusty Bin Bonus is activated by three or more “free Spins” Dusty Bins. The player will be given the chance to select four of twelve Dusty Bin icons displayed on screen. Each icon conceals either a number of free spins or a bonus multiplier. The ones selected are combined to form the full bonus. All prizes won during the free spins mode are multiplied by the free game multiplier. Note that free games can be retriggered at the same number and multiplier as the originally awarded set and the other scatter bonuses are available, too.
The Eliminator Bonus is triggered by three or more Dusty Bins holding Logo Cards. The player will be offered the opportunity to choose five out of nine object clues to win an associated prize. Revealing a Dusty Bin means no win from that clue. Eliminator Bonus prizes are multiplied by the total triggering bet and also the free game multiplier if won during free games.
The Entertainer Bonus is activated by three or more Dusty Bins wearing a top hat. The play is presented with a “Variety Wheel,” and the object is to see how many variety acts can be collected in five spins of the Wheel. Each act that is collected increases the pay award to the next level. Any Eliminator prizes are multiplied by the total triggering bet and by the free game multiplier if one is won during free games.
