Although there are no celebrity pros featured in Playtech’s Tennis Stars slot game, there is plenty of action taking place on the court. Both men’s and women’s singles are featured, with the goal being to win the Championship Bonus and a huge cash prize. Using the Autoplay feature allows non-stop play en route to free spins, too.
The format of Tennis Stars is 40 paylines across five reels. Betting denominations range from €0.01 to €5.00. Up to ten credits may be played per line, which makes for a maximum wager of €2,000. Playtech’s standard playing card symbols are the basic symbols on the reels, Nines through Aces, and a tennis ball comes bouncing out from them whenever they match up in winning combinations of three or more, worth a line bet multiplier of 5X to 400X.
Other symbols appearing on the reels include the Tennis Balls and Tennis Shoes, paying 25X, 50X or 1000X for winning alignments of 3, 4 or 5 symbols on an active payline. The Male Player showing his backhand and the Female Player showing her forehand are worth 5X, 50X, 500X or 5000X for 2, 3, 4 or 5 matches, respectively. All symbols animate when appearing in a successful combination.
The Crossed Racquets scatter symbol is especially desirable in the Tennis Stars game. Whenever 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters appear anywhere on the reels, a payout of worth 2, 5, 25 or 50 times the total wager is awarded. For three or more scatters, the Championship Bonus Game is initiated. A new screen appears, offering the player the opportunity to play a single tennis set against the computer. The player may select either men’s singles or women’s singles.
As the set begins on a screen showing the tennis court, the player is the server. Two options are available for each serve: flat or slice. After a choice of serves is made, the point plays out, with either the player or the computer scoring. Points continue to be played until the match is won by the player. Winning a love set is worth 50 times the initiating wager. If the computer scores 15 points, the set is worth 15X. If the computer scores 30 points, the set is valued at 10X.
Additionally, the player receives an additional multiplier for scoring Aces when serving. The values are 2X, 3X, 4X or 5X for 1, 2, 3 or 4 Aces, respectively. The maximum payout for the Championship Bonus Game is a love set won with four Aces, for a multiplier of 250X. At the maximum betting limit, that would be a whopping €500,000.
The Wild symbol on Tennis Stars is the Wild Trophy, which appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4. The Wild Trophy substitutes for all symbols except the Crossed Racquets scatter. Catching all three Wild Trophies simultaneously in any position triggers the Free Games feature. The player is immediately awarded a prize of 10 times the total bet. Then, 10 free spins are triggered with all win values tripled. The reels contain both the Crossed Racquet scatter and Wild Trophy symbols during the free spins, too, so either bonus can be retriggered.
Another bonus aspect of the Tennis Stars slot game is its Gamble Feature. After each win, the player has the option to guess a card, red or black in order to double up the winnings. Correct picks enable redoubling, again and again, up to a maximum limit of €2,500. Otherwise the “Collect” button can used to secure the payout and return to the normal slot game mode. To make card selection a bit easier, a history of past cards drawn provides some useful information.
