In contrast to the ferocious, bloodthirsty aliens portrayed in modern cinema, the visitors from outer space that appear in Playtech’s 5-reel, 25-payline slot game called “Alien Hunter” are downright cuddly. And catching them is pretty easy, too, thanks to lots of special features built right into the game’s paytable.
Credit denominations on Alien Hunter run from €0.01 to €5.00 and as many as 10 credits may be wagered per selected payline. The maximum wager is €250. Betting amounts may be adjusted between spins at any time by using the controls at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on “Max Bet” will maximize both the number of paylines and the amount bet per line without changing the credit denomination.
The basic reel symbols are Playtech’s customary cards, Tens through Aces. Winning combinations pay from 5X to 150X for three or more matched symbols on an active payline. Higher awards come from lining up just two or more of the colourful aliens—Purple, Green and Orange—with line multipliers worth from 2X to 1000X.
Also appearing on the reels is the Caged Alien wild symbol. It substitutes for all symbols except the Bonus and Scatter symbols. Catching 2, 3, 4 or 5 Caged Aliens on a payline awards a line multiplier of 10X, 100X, 1000X or 10000X, respectively. Because the payout requirements are so low and matches so frequent, players will find themselves winning small amounts on virtually every spin, accompanied by eerie, other-worldly sound effects.
Where the game really kicks into high gear is its numerous Bonus features. The Hunter Ship Scatter triggers free spins whenever three or more are displayed anywhere on the reels. The reward is 5 free spins for 3 scatters, 10 free spins for 4 scatters and 25 free spins for 5 scatters. During the free spins mode, additional free spins can be retriggered indefinitely and all other Bonus features are active too.
On the first and fifth reels only, Alien Egg Bonus symbols appear. Whenever both are displayed simultaneously in any position, a second-screen Bonus Round is activated and the alien nest is revealed. The player must begin selecting from among 15 blue eggs, each of which hides a cash prize. One of the eggs is a “Super Egg” that doubles the value of all subsequent selections. The Bonus Round ends when the “Evil Alien” is revealed. Picking all 14 winning eggs can be worth up to 720 credits.
Another Bonus feature is triggered whenever three Hunting Bonus symbols align on an active payline in the middle three reels. The player must then choose between the Skill and Luck versions of the Bonus Round when a second screen appears. In the Skill mode, the player must capture up to six aliens within 15 seconds. Red aliens pay the most, Blue aliens pay the second most and Green ones pay the least.
In the Luck mode, the aliens move more slowly and there is no time limit on catching six of them. However, the amount won is determined randomly and tends to be lower than the totals that can be won in the Skill mode.
The Alien Hunter slot is also linked into Playtech’s progressive Dollar Ball Jackpot. This lotto type of side game can be accessed by using a toggle in the upper right corner of the screen. The object of Dollar Ball is to choose five numbers from 1 to 49 and launch the main game, where five numbers will be drawn at random.
Getting 1, 2 or 3 numbers correct pays 1X, 2X or 25X, based on the total amount bet. Catching four numbers yields a payout of 1% of the progressive jackpot, while getting all five numbers pays the grand prize.
Players may select their own five Dollar Ball numbers or click on Random Pick to have the numbers chosen randomly by the computer. As long as Dollar Ball is activated, an additional Jackpot wager will be made automatically each time the player bets in the main slot game. The Dollar Ball side bet can be turned off at will by clicking on Disable.
Whenever numbers match the player’s picks, the circles containing those numbers turn green and the win amount is displayed. All Dollar Ball wins are deposited directly into the current Balance along with any winnings from the main game.
