The American television action drama series called “Baywatch” debuted in 1989, starring David Hasselhoff as the character Mitch Buchannon. The show followed the adventures of lifeguards who patrol the beaches of Los Angeles County. During the programme’s decade-long run, dozens of actors and actresses joined the cast, including Pamela Anderson as C.J. Parker in 1992~97. Others popular stars who starred were David Charvet as Matt Brody, Yasmine Bleeth as Caroline Holden and Gena Lee Nolin as Neely Capshaw.

In September 2012, software giant Playtech rolled out a new Baywatch slot game that brings the 1990’s series right back to screens around the world, albeit on computers this time instead TVs. Although Hasselhoff is missing, Anderson, Charvet, Bleeth and Nolin appear on the reels ready to rescue players from lethargy, and they provide plenty of action in the special Baywatch bonus games.

Baywatch follows Playtech’s standard 5-reel, 20-payline format. Available line bets range from €0.20 to €500.00, making the maximum possible wager an eye-popping €10,000. To start the game, simply click “Spin.” Winnings are displayed in the “Win” section below the third reel, and the player’s current balance shows in the screen’s lower left-hand corner.

Clicking on “Bet Max” beneath the fourth reel will maximize the number of lines bet, but it does not affect the size of the wager per line, which must be set manually by the player by using the +/- toggles located beneath the second reel. Note that there is no Autoplay function in this game.

The basic symbols appearing on the reels are Playtech’s typical cards, Nines through Aces. They pay a multiple of the line bet, from 5X to 100X, whenever three or more matching symbols occur on an active payline. Higher values are paid for matching at least three of the Rescue Float, Jet Ski or Lifeguard Boat symbols—from 20X to 500X. Catching 3, 4 or 5 matching lifeguards—Holden, Brody or Capshaw—will pay 80X, 500X or 1000X, respectively.

The wild symbol on the reels of Baywatch is C.J. Parker. She appears on all reels, but on the middle three reels she also has a stacked format, making it possible to fill all three positions on a reel with wilds. Parker substitutes for all symbols except the Rescue Feature and the Lifeguard Tower scatter. Catching 3, 4 or 5 Parkers on an active payline awards 100X, 800X or 3000X, respectively. When the two or three stacked Parkers fill a reel, the symbols animate, a wave washes over them and a full-length Parker is revealed.

Whenever the Rescue Feature symbol appears on the fifth reel, the player is given a choice of two features. The first is the C.J. Parker Respin, in which one free respin is awarded with 2, 3 or 4 extra wilds distributed randomly on the reels. The second is the Lifeguard Mini Bonus, where the player must uncover three matching lifeguard symbols from among 15 covered in sand to reveal a cash prize.

Catching three or more Lifeguard Tower scatter symbols anywhere on the reels triggers the Baywatch Free Games with 12 free spins and three sets of stacked lifeguards on the middle reel. Catching all three of the stacked Caroline Holden symbols awards six extra spins with Holden everywhere in place of the other lifeguards and all wins tripled. If the three stacked Matt Brody symbols fill the reel, the player gets six extra spins with Brody as Extra Frozen Wilds added randomly on reels one, three and five for the first, fourth and sixth of the free spins, respectively.

Displaying the stacked Neely Capshaw symbols is worth six extra spins where Capshaw increases the multiplier by 1X for total bet paid on each spin. The C.J. Parker symbols still appear, too, as do the Lifeguard Tower scatter symbols, so the free spins can be retriggered. Stacked wilds do not appear, however, during the extra spins in the Free Games mode.
