Within the genre of online Hi-Lo games, the vast majority of applications require the player to make a single choice: will the next outcome be higher or lower than the last one? Occasionally this is supplemented by an option to wager on the same outcome occurring, usually at much higher odds, but only a few Hi-Lo games offer more than one wagering opportunity on a single game.
“Generator” is one such application. In fact, it offers the opportunity to make up to 16 separate selections on a single stake. In this respect, betting on Generator is rather like playing an accumulator when wagering on sports. In order for the bet to win, each and every selection must be successful individually; otherwise the entire stake is lost.
The Generator game board has a very electro-mechanical appearance. Against a black background, there is a metallic-looking horizontal cylinder. It is dimmed at the outset of the game. At either end of the cylinder in light blue print are the words “Number range 1-36.” This is a reference to the number of possible outcomes available for each bet—a number from 1 to 36.
The face of the cylinder displays a control panel in metallic grey and blue. There are 16 nodes jutting out of the panel, eight at the top and eight at the bottom. Each node displays a randomly generated number between 1 and 36. In the very centre of the panel is a light blue message board. Initially, it reads, “Please select stake then press OK.”
The “Stake” indicator is located below the lower left corner of the message board. Using the +/- toggles to its right allows the value of the wager to be selected from £1 to £25. Once a stake has been selected, clicking on the glowing yellow “OK” button to the right will bring up the lights and activate the Generator. The message board will read, “Please choose Hi or Lo from one or more of the 16 numbers.”
Printed above and below the random number on each node are the words “Hi” and “Lo.” Clicking on these is how bets are placed. The player may choose just one node to back, or two, three, four … up to all sixteen. The value of the “Next Win” will be displayed on the message board and change with each additional selection. If a mistake is made while making a forecast, clicking on the node will erase the choice.
One other way to choose nodes and make bets is to use the “Best” button below the message board. Each time it is clicked, a selection will be made automatically based upon the mathematical odds of success for each node. Choices made in this way may also be erased by clicking on the node to be deselected.
Once all of the selections have been made, clicking on the glowing yellow “Play” button will start the game. All 16 digits will randomize and eventually stop on a new number. Nodes on which correct forecasts have been made will light up and glow in yellow. The player may then continue to play by making new selections and letting the total stake ride, or else click on the “Collect” button to add the winnings to the funds “Balance” at the top right of the screen and begin again.
Any incorrect forecast will result in a loss and the entire stake will be forfeit. The losing node will light up in glowing red, the words “Game Over” will appear on the message board and the game board will dim as it returns to its original starting state.
