Developed by Dynamite Idea Interactive Gaming, “Golden Clover” provides a new twist on a familiar casino table game—American Roulette. It is a fixed odds arcade game for online casinos such as Bet365, offering players numerous opportunities to demonstrate their skills at forecasting and making combination bets.
The game board for Golden Clover is a racetrack arrangement of 38 numbers in a four-leaf clover configuration. The numbers 1~36 are coloured orange or green and distributed randomly around the track, while the special symbols “0” and “X” each appear twice in yellow at the intersection of the four leaves labeled North, South, East and West. Bets are placed directly in a special wagering section at the right side of the screen, which is quite similar to the standard Roulette table design. However, there are several significant differences between Golden Clover and the traditional game.
For example, because the 0 and X symbols appear twice on the racetrack, there are actually 40 possible outcomes instead of 38. What’s more the path of the ball as it races around the track carries it over 0 and X positions four times apiece, making the true odds of a specified number coming up a 1-in-44 chance.
This obviously has an effect on the payouts that are made. For instance, betting on a single number straight up pays 43X, while covering two numbers is worth 21X. Because the X and 0 symbols appear twice, they pay just 10X when bet upon straight up. Selecting a row of three adjoining numbers yields a payout of 14X, while a double row of six numbers pays 7X. A wager on a block of four adjacent numbers is worth 10X.
The brown coloured betting sections surrounding the field of numbers is for making “outside” bets. Wagers made on Orange or Green pay 2.2X when successful. The same is true of bets made on Odd or Even. A payout of 3.5X is awarded for correctly betting on one of the three columns of numbers or the three groups of dozens, 1~12, 13~24 or 25~36. A successful forecast on any of the leaves—N, S, E or W—is worth 4.5X. There is no paytable, but the odds for each wager are displayed as the cursor is passed over a betting area.
To help make wagering even easier, there are controls in the middle of the display for “Rebet” and “Clear All,” along with a red “X” symbol that can be used to remove any individual bets, too. Choosing the value of each chip to wager is accomplished by using the up/down arrows above and below the chip display in the very centre of the controls. Available denominations are £0.50, £1, £5, £10, £25 and £50. The amount wagered is shown in the Total Stake indicator at the bottom right corner of the screen. And a green “Play” button at the bottom of the display is used to start the game.
When the Play button is clicked, a yellow ball will begin moving along the racetrack in a clover pattern, gradually slowing and coming to a halt on a specific number. At that point, all winning sections on the wagering field will light up and the chips in losing areas will disappear. The payouts associated with the winning number will be calculated automatically and displayed in the “You Won” counter that replaces the Total Stake indicator.
Among other features on Golden Clover, a “Draw History” display beneath the racetrack section shows the most recent eight winning numbers. There is also a pull-down “Options” menu at the top of the screen, which allows audio adjustments to be made for “Sound” and “Music.” At some casinos, a switch for “Turbo” is available, too, to help speed up the pace of the game.
