Go To bet365The fictional superhero known as “Iron Man” has been part of the Marvel Comics library since 1963. The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee, assisted by scripter Larry Lieber along with artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. The illustrated series traces the adventures of billionaire playboy, industrialist and ingenious engineer Tony Stark, who invents a powered suit of armour that becomes his alter ego, Iron Man.
In 2008, Paramount Pictures turned Iron Man into a blockbuster Hollywood movie, starring Robert Downey Jr. The success of that film inspired Marvel Entertainment to team up with software developer Playtech in 2009 to create the Iron Man slots game, which quickly became available on 169 affiliated Internet casinos. This game is not to be confused with an earlier version released by Cryptologic prior to 2008.
Iron Man represented Playtech’s first venture into the realm of Marvel Hero tie-ins, simultaneous with the release of its Incredible Hulk slots game. It is 5-reel, 25-payline video slot game, connected to the Marvel Multi-Level Mystery Progressive Jackpot for potentially huge payout.
Thematically, the player has to help Tony Stark battle evil and save the Earth from destruction. Thanks to arresting graphics, especially in the bonus game mode called “Missile Attack,” the action feels as if it had been ripped directly from the pages of a Marvel superhero saga.
Wins are possible in the basic mode by lining up card symbols, Nines through Aces, or by hitting combinations of story symbols: Attaché Cases, Missiles, Tony Stark and Iron Man. Iron Man Logo symbols appear on the reels, too, and they trigger the game’s Scatter Bonus.
The two “flying” Iron Man symbols on reels one and five are the key to the highest payout—5,000X on an active payline. The “stacked” Iron Man symbols that appear on the middle three reels are wild, and they are capable of expanding to fill the entire reel. Matching Iron Man symbols across all five reels will pay the top prize—up to 450,000 credits at Max Bet.
With credit denominations from €0.01 to €5, Iron Man slots accept 1 to 10 credits per line bet on any number of paylines up to the full 25. The maximum wager is 250 credits or €1,250. The credit value can be adjusted by using a pop-up menu below reel one. To start, simply click “Spin.” Winnings appear in the “Win” counter immediately below the fifth reel. In the lower left corner of the screen, the current balance is displayed. Activating the Autoplay function allows up to 99 repeat bets to be made.
The Marvel Multi-Level Mystery Progressive Jackpot is awarded completely at random. There are four tiers of jackpots—Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power—starting at €50, €500, €5,000 and €100,000, respectively. Payouts as high as €500,000 have been recorded.
Other line payouts vary from 7X to 750X. The Scatter Bonuses are paid as a multiple of the entire wager: 1X, 3X, 10X or 100X when 2, 3, 4, or 5 Logo symbols appear. Three or more scatters symbols initiate the Missile Attack Bonus, an animated bonus stage where Iron Man flies through the air. In this mode, shooting down missiles will win cash prizes, free spins and multipliers. It is also possible to retrigger additional free spins during the free-spin round of the bonus.
Given that this was the first of Playtech’s Marvel Hero slot games, it has certainly proven popular and resilient, even in the face of subsequent launches like Fantastic Four and X-Men. Not even the release of an Iron Man 2 slot game based on Paramount’s 2010 movie sequel has had the power to knock the original out.
