Realistic Gaming is noted for producing hyper-realistic graphics and audio for its slot games, and “Pentagram” is certainly no exception. This 3-reel, 5-payline slot game has the unique “Real 2 Reel” option that allows playing the game in either “Full Cabinet View” mode, surrounded by other slot machines just like on a real casino floor, or in “Close-up” mode so that only the view of the reels can be seen on the screen.
The Pentagram game console has an authentic 3-D look. Controls are found on a ledge-like panel below the reels, colourful neon lights frame the console and a tombstone-shaped marquee appears at the top, depicting an eerie twilight view of the moon rising above stone ruins and browning leaves of ivy.
The game begins with the player selecting an amount for wagering. This is accomplished by using the up/down arrows next to the “Bet” indicator on the left side of the control panel. Available wagers range from €0.25 to €200 maximum. Five win lines are automatically played on each spin—three horizontal and two diagonal—and the total wager is multiplied whenever a winning combination appears.
Symbols on the reel are similar to those found on most fruit machines. Catching three Cherries, Lemons or Oranges on a win line is worth double the total wager. Three in a row of the Grapes or Bells pays a multiplier of 10X. Three matching Watermelons are worth 50X, and the top prize is getting three-of-a-kind of the Realistic Logo, worth 250X. Again, these are paid against the entire wager and all wins yield multiples of the total bet.
If multiple wins are obtained, the wins are paid in sequence from win line 1 to win line 5. All win line payouts must appear on an active win line, and Pentagram has a maximum payout of 250 times the bet value, per game. Any payouts above this value are ignored.
Additionally, one of each symbol other than the Logo carries the letters “PENT” on the first reel and “GRAM” on the last reel. On the center reel, a Pentagram symbol appears. When all three of these align on a win line to spell “PENT-A-GRAM,” the Pentagram Feature is activated, paying double the amount wagered and awarding ten free spins.
When the bonus is activated, a secondary screen is displayed showing the Pentagram symbol rising from a pool of water in an empty courtyard. The symbol spins in the air with background music playing until the player clicks on the flashing Pentagram button on the control panel.
Just before the free spins begin, the three reels seem to quiver in anticipation. A rock instrumental starts up and a free spin counter appears just above the “Bet” indicator. During the free spins, any winning combinations of symbols pay out at the normal rates. However, whenever the Pentagram symbol appears on the middle reel in any position, the total amount of the accumulated winnings will be doubled.
Note that the Pentagram doubling occurs after any winning amounts from the current spin have been paid. However, even if a line spells out “PENT-A-GRAM” again during the free spins, the bonus cannot be retriggered. Only the doubling of the winnings occurs. Of course, this could potentially happen on each of the ten free spins, but the multiplier is limited to 250 times the original triggering win. If that level is reached, any remaining free spins are cancelled.
Apart from the great audio and graphics, Pentagram has a superb Autoplay feature. The access button is on the right side of the control panel. Clicking on it opens an Autoplay screen with several options, including settings for the number of auto spins from 1 to 500, a stop amount for jackpots, a “Fast Bank” function on/off, and the option to either pause or automatically continue when the Pentagram Feature is awarded.
