Software developers have plenty of experience in delivering online slot action with a Middle Eastern theme. From the ever popular 5-reel, 20-payline games like Sultan’s Gold and Desert Treasure to the hottest progressives, such as Genie’s Hi-Lo and Cleopatra’s Gold, players have readily embraced the exotic allure of caravans, oases, tented encampments, mysticism and wealth beyond measure.
What Playtech’s “Sultan’s Fortune” brings to this genre is an incredibly simple classic format: spin the three reels, line up matching symbols on the single payline and collect a cash prize. Even the number of symbols on the reels has been limited to six, thus making play especially easy.
Sultan’s Fortune is especially well suited to entry-level players. There are no scatter symbols, no free spins and no bonus games. The credit denominations range from €0.01 to €5.00, and the value can be easily adjusted using the +/- toggles next to the bet indicator at the lower left of the screen.
It is possible to wager only one or two credits on the center payline. The amount can be adjusted by using the “Bet One” button on the control panel directly below the reels. Clicking on “Bet Max” will place the maximum wager of two credits on the payline, but it will not affect the denomination of each credit. The total bet limit is €10 per spin.
At the top of the display window is the game’s Paytable. Payouts are shown in two columns, one for each bet amount, set between spiral pillars. Betting two credits on the payline will essentially double the amounts paid out.
There are seven possible winning combinations that may appear on the reels, where the six Sultan’s Fortune symbols reflect the lifestyle of a wealthy Middle Eastern merchant. Catching three Gold Coins on the payline is worth 25 times the line bet. Three Pink Pearls pay a multiplier of 50X, and three Scimitars will yield 75X. Lining up three Emeralds is worth 100 times the wager, while getting three Double Hearts in a row pays a hefty 250X. Should a random arrangement of any three symbols appear on the payline, that’s worth double the bet.
The magical Top Hat & Wand symbol is wild in this game. It can substitute for any of the other five symbols. Catching three consecutive Top Hat & Wand symbols on the payline is worth a whopping 4000X when one credit is played or 10000X when wagering the maximum two credits. That makes the top prize a comforting €100,000 at Bet Max playing €5 per credit.
There are three different ways to set the reels in motion. The first and most obvious is to click on the “Spin” button below the second reel. A second option is to click on the adjacent “Bet Max” button, automatically setting the bet at two credits. The third option is to click on either the “1” credit or “2” credit column on the Paytable.
One convenience that players may wish to take advantage of is the Autoplay option. It can be accessed by clicking on the “Menu” button, which can be found in the lower right corner of the screen. Clicking on Autoplay pops up a control panel just above the Menu. The +/- toggles flanking the spins indicator can be used to set the number of auto spins desired from 1 to 9,999 maximum.
As for the game’s sound effects, they are certainly reminiscent of the Middle East, too. A female voice sings out in an indiscernible foreign language as the reels begin to spin, backed by the hypnotic rhythm of beating drums. When a winning combination occurs, exotic flute music plays
