The logo for Turbo Gold incorporates a blazing hot tire, indicative of its driving theme and the high speed at which the game can be played. The three reels are displayed slightly off-centre to the left of the screen, making room for the Paytable and Turbo Multiplier ladder on the right. At the top is the “Max Jackpot” indicator, and to its right is the “Winnings” counter. The frame of the game is designed to resemble the dashboard of a classic automobile.
To begin the game, the player must choose an amount to wager by using the green up/down arrows flanking the “Stake” indicator beneath the Paytable. Available values range from £0.25 to £10. The amount of the Jackpot will change, depending on the stake selected. The total amount of funds available can be seen in the “Message” display below the reels. Clicking on the green “Start” button in the lower right corner will set the reels in motion.
The reels feature five paylines—three horizontal and two diagonal—which are always in play. The payout table shows the amounts that can be won for catching three matching symbols in a row. Cherries pay odds of 1X, Lemons are worth 2X and Oranges yield 5X. Three plums are worth 10X, three Bells pay 15X and three Grapes are valued at 20X. Catching three Watermelons pays 30X, while three Red Sevens are worth 40X. The top prize of 50X goes for matching three Jokers, which are also the Wild symbols for this game and substitute for any of the other symbols.
Following each win, a man’s laugh is heard and the player has the option to use the Turbo Gamble feature. Fast action driving music will play and the lights will begin flashing on the yellow “Collect” button and the blue “Turbo Gamble” button. The 2X step on the Turbo Multiplier ladder will also flash, and the words “Win” and “”Lose” will blink in alternation on the Message display. The player has 10 seconds to decide what action to take.
If Collect is chosen, the Winnings will be deposited to the player’s funds and the next spin can begin. Clicking on Turbo Gamble, however, will cause the Message display to freeze on either Win or Lose. If the result is Lose, the Winnings are lost and the next spin can begin. If the result is Win, the Winnings will increase to 2X and the 3X step on the ladder will begin flashing. Again, the player has 10 seconds to decide whether to use Turbo Gamble again or to Collect the Winnings.
The Turbo Multiplier ladder has ten steps in all, from 1X to 10X. If the result of the gamble is Lose after the player has advanced at least one step up the ladder, the Winnings will decrease to the step immediately below. If the result of the gamble is Win, the Winnings will increase to the step above. The player may continue to use Turbo Gamble, moving up and down the ladder, until all the Winnings are lost, Collect is taken or the 10X step is reached.
If the player reaches position 10X on the ladder, Super Turbo is offered. This is a double or half gamble and the outcome terminates the game. This is where it is possible to either win the Maximum Jackpot for the stake being played or half that value.
Other features on Turbo Gold are available to enhance play. One of these is the orange Turbo Play button at the bottom of the screen. When it is activated, the reels cease to rotate and instead snap into place on each spin to quicken the pace of play. There is also a Max Stake button to easily wager the maximum amount. And the Autoplay option appears below the Turbo Multiplier ladder to allow a preset number of automatic spins from 5 to 100. Note that Turbo Gamble remains operational when Autoplay is turned on.
