Imagine 24 seasons of league football condensed into a single day—a new season launched every hour and played from start to finish, with a week’s worth of matches held every 90 seconds. Then, imagine 48 different leagues competing at the same time with betting opportunities for each and every fixture. That’s exactly what’s offered on the Bet365 web site in the exciting application known as “Virtual Football.”
Virtual Football simulates an entire football season—38 weeks of action—in just 60 minutes. That includes the full fixture list right through to deciding the League winner. All four of the top U.K. leagues are represented, as are the top leagues of Italy, Spain, Germany and other countries … even Canada.
Players may bet on the results of individual matches or on the outright champion for each League. Multiple bets are available, including Doubles, Trebles and Accumulators, with up to 247 combinations possible. It is possible to wager on the current week’s events, or on fixtures in future weeks or even in future seasons.
The Virtual Football display is divided into five translucent sections against an empty green pitch in the background. Running across the top of the display is the section for selecting Leagues from a pull-down menu, current or future seasons, and current or future weeks. A flag in the left corner indicates the country where the League is located.
In the middle left of the display is the betting form, indicating the season and week numbers at the top and up to ten matches available for wagering. Clicking on the “i” button next to any fixture will reveal a pop-up showing information about both sides, their most recent six results as well as their heads-up histories going back ten seasons. Odds are clearly shown in the standard “Home-Draw-Away” format, and a toggle at the bottom of the section allows switching between decimal and fractional odds.
The middle right side of the display is where the results are shown. There are tabs for League Standings, Results and Stats. This is also where the latest scores appear every 90 seconds as they come in, and at the start of each season it’s where Outright bets are made. Separating the two middle sections is the Time indicator, with a countdown timer for wagering shown in seconds at the top and disappearing bars in 10-second increments just below it.
At the lower left of the display is the “Place Bets” section. It features buttons for selection the amount to wager, from 10p to £100. An information box confirms the details of the bet, and the orange “Clear Stake” and “Bet Now” buttons are used, respectively, to erase or enter the bet.
At the lower right of the display is the “Bet Result” section. As each wager is made, descriptions are listed here, including Bet Number, Bet Details, Stake and Return. A scroll bar on the left allows past bets and results to be viewed.
It is possible to place multiple wagers on the fixtures of multiple leagues during the same week by switching between countries within the 90 seconds allotted for betting. The details of each bet will be listed in the Bet Result section. While matches are under way, betting is not permitted. A spinning football will appear with the words “Playing Matches” below the country flag at the left and remain there until the results are in and the next week’s fixtures are displayed.
Of special note, the Virtual Football odds calculations are based upon each team’s “goal probability,” indicated as their chances of scoring between 0 and 6 goals for the match concerned. Note also that bets are accepted up to four seconds before the weekly games are played.
