Folklore is peppered with tales of “werewolves,” mythical humans with the ability to shapeshift into a wolves or a hybrid wolf-like creature. The stories date back to ancient Greece and they became a frequent subject of modern fiction of the fantasy or horror genre in the 20th century. Now, thanks to the software developers at Aristocrat, the beasts have been turned loose in Internet casinos, too, in the form of the “Werewolf Wild” slot game.
Werewolf Wild features a 5-reel, 25-payline format. The background for the reels is a London night scene of the 19th century, when carriages drawn by horses traveled the streets. Play begins by selecting the amount of the “Bet” per line by using +/- toggles beneath the third reel. Available denominations range from €0.03 to €4.00, thus making the maximum possible wager €100 per spin. A “Max” buttons is also provided for wagering the maximum, but there is no need to select paylines, because all 25 of them are always in play
The basic reel symbols on Werewolf Wild are the common card symbols, Tens through Aces. Payouts are made for matching three or more of these symbols for payouts of 5X to 6125X. Higher rewards can be gained by matching symbols for the Carriage, Streetlamp, Policeman, Lady or Gentleman, from 10X to 500X for three of a kind or more on an active payline from left to right. The wild symbol on all reels is the grey “Werewolf.” He substitutes for all of the above symbols during normal slot play. Catching 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the Werewolf in a winning combination pays 10X, 100X, 500X or 1000X, respectively.
There is also a Full Moon scatter symbol on each of the reels. Whenever 3, 4 or 5 scatters appear anywhere on the reels, a payout is made times the total wager of 2X, 10X or 50X, respectively. Catching 3, 4 or 5 Full Moon scatter symbols also activates the Werewolf’s Touch Bonus, awarding 7, 14 or 28 free spins, respectively, with “Contagious Wilds”—each Werewolf symbol spun up on the reels transforms any Gentleman, Lady or Policeman it touches into another contagious werewolf. The free spins can also be retriggered during the bonus round.
Another symbol that appears on the first reel only is the Mystery Coin. Whenever it shows up with at least one Werewolf symbol in any position on the other reels, a random stake multiplier is awarded from 2X to 20X. There is also a “Claw Swipe Feature” that can be awarded at random any time during slot play, turning up to five symbols into the wild Werewolf symbol.
One other bonus available on Werewolf Wild is the Gamble Feature. After each win, the player has the option to guess a card, red or black to double up the winnings, or to pick a suit—hearts, diamonds, spades or clubs—to quadruple the winnings. Choosing correctly allows gambling again and again up to a maximum of five times, otherwise the “Take Win” button can used to collect the payout and return to the slot game mode. To make card selection a bit easier, a history of the suits of past cards drawn provides some useful information.
One other useful aspect of this slot is the Autoplay function. Clicking on the Autoplay button below the first reel will open a menu for selecting from 5 to 500 automatic spins. The game will only pause when the player clicks on “Stop Spin” or a Bonus Feature is activated. Note that the Gamble Feature is disabled during the Autoplay mode.
